Agriculture is central to robust economic growth, development and alleviating rural poverty in Pakistan.  According to a World Bank report, national average yields of major crops like wheat and rice in Pakistan are only 55% of progressive farmer yields, the highest achievable yields in the country. This inability to realize the full potential is rooted in a number of contributing factors, including: slow adoption of technology and modern practices; inefficient management; infrastructural and supply-chain bottlenecks, financing, economic and policy lapses.

This modular executive certificate program is designed to provide participants with leading-edge managerial know-how and skills essential to operate successfully in an agribusiness environment. During the program the participants will gain understanding of the agribusiness economics, technological trends, and market dynamics; enabling them to recognize opportunities and create value for their businesses and respective organisations.

This program was developed by LUMS in collaboration with Nestlé Pakistan as part of a Creating Shared Value initiative. 

 The certificate program is designed to deliver following key learning objectives:

  • Develop ability to assess agribusiness economic environment and value chain; plan and formulate strategies to achieve enterprise targets
  • Develop entrepreneurial abilities essential for recognizing and capitalizing on value creation opportunities
  • Acquire management knowledge, tools and techniques useful in making sound business decisions.
  • Develop business plan for starting up new agribusiness venture
  • Appreciate impact of market forces, technology and global trends on agricultural enterprises and the importance of managing risks
  • Develop and sharpen leadership competencies to motivate and effectively manage human resources
  • Benefit from the weekend structure of the program, while allowing participants to hold their full-time jobs

The duration of the program is 24 full-days of class contact on alternate weekends, excluding field trips. The weekend model makes this program highly suitable for working professionals.

The program is designed for:

  • Agribusiness managers, processors, producers, providers of agri-credit, farm managers and others involved at various stages of the agricultural produce value chain.
  • Other stakeholders in the agriculture sector, including: potential and current investors in high-value agriculture, livestock and dairy farming, and agribusinesses; agriculture commodity traders and exporters; and managers of agricultural input producers (seed, fertilizers, chemical, feed, etc.)
  • Professionals of life sciences, food sciences, researchers at private and government institutions related to agriculture who desire to acquire cutting-edge business knowledge relevant to agribusiness.

The program is specifically designed to meet the needs of working professionals; the alternate weekend structure of the program allows the participants to hold their full-time jobs.

A minimum educational qualification of a bachelor’s degree and atleast 2 years of experience is required for participation.

ECAM program participants have included executives from various agribusiness segments, agri entrepreneurs, farm owners, and others involved in the agribusiness value chains. Diversity of program participants brings together enormous experiences and agribusiness knowledge, creating an enriching learning environment and networking opportunity. Participant diversity is a distinctive strength of the ECAM program.

Accommodation is arranged on request and as per availability at Rausing Executive Development Centre. The residential fee for participant’s stay  at REDC-LUMS is PKR 8,500 per night for participant (inclusive of breakfast and dinner). You are, however, requested to inform us of the time of your arrival and departure.

We offer single bed accommodation at the Rausing Executive Centre. Each bedroom with attached bathroom is equipped with mini-fridge, writing desk and direct dial STD/ISD telephone and cable TV. All bedrooms at REC are internet-ready. Please note we do not provide accommodation for drivers accompanying participants.

Applications will be screened with regard to their suitability for each program. Kindly ensure that your complete online application form reaches the office by the deadline. Incomplete application forms will not be entertained.

Payment is due upon receipt of the acceptance letter along with the invoice. Please ensure that the payment reaches the office BEFORE the start of the program. Space in the program may only be ensured after we receive the fee.

Our preferred mode of payment is by cheque/banker’s draft payable to Lahore University of Management Sciences.

* LUMS is a non-profit organization under section 2(36) of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001. Accordingly, under section 100C (2) (d), the income of LUMS is not tax deductible/collectable.

If you are unable to attend a registered course we will accept a substitute until two working days before the program. Substitute candidates will be subject to the same selection process as the original candidate. If you wish to cancel your name from a program, please notify in writing at least five working days before the program. Course fee will be refunded after deducting an application-processing fee of PKR 40,000/-. There will be no refund for cancellation received after the withdrawal date or in case of no-show.

It is possible to transfer to another program within 2 years. The deposited fee will be carried forward after deducting the application-processing fee of PKR 40,000. Please note that only one transfer is permitted. After 2 years the deposited fee will be forfeited. Transfers should be notified at least five working days before the program.

All notifications of cancellations, substitutes and transfers must be confirmed in writing.

Note: REDC may cancel or postpone a program due to insufficient enrolment or unforeseen circumstances. In this case, University will refund registration fee and is not responsible for any other related charges/expenses including cancellation/change charges by airlines and travel agencies. In case of postponement, the fee may be transferred to the rescheduled offering of that program or any other program as an alternate to refund. The University reserves the right to make changes in its program policies and fees at any time.
